The Preference of IPhones and Androids Depending On Age
Abstract
I have had an IPhone and an Android and I can’t seem to make up my mind on which one I like more than the other.  Recently I went to an AT&T store to get a new phone and I was stuck on the decision I had to make of getting either an IPhone or an Android.  Both phones have up-to-date technology and do a lot of the same things.  The looks of the phone are a little different.  When you unlock the phone and begin to play around, the phones become much more different.  When a lady met with me for some assistance, she asked me if I preferred android or apple. She was taken back with amazement when I responded with an uncertain answer.  She said that most people she meets with know if they prefer IPhones or Androids.  This began to make me question the ratio of people’s preferences to IPhones and Androids.  I asked different people in three different age groups if they preferred IPhones or Androids.  I wanted to create a study that most people never really thought of.  The ratio of the preference of IPhones to Androids is close the even.  So maybe by looking at it in a different point of view, we might get different results.  By asking several people some questions about their preference of iPhones to androids, it that might bring up some shocking results.
Introduction
IPhone and Android cell phones have created a big debate about which phone is a better phone.  Everyone has a cell phone now a days and almost all of those people who have cell phone have a smart phone like an IPhone or an Android. A recent report from digital analytics firm comScore reveals that of the 184 million Americans owning a smartphone, more than 4 in 10 use an iPhone.  During the three months ending January 2015, Apple sat atop the smartphone original equipment manufacturer (OEM) hill with 41.3 percent of the U.S. market, which is down 0.6 percentage points from its 41.9 percent mark during the three months ending October 2014.  Related: Android claims 81.5% of the global smartphone OS market in 2014, iOS dips to 14.8% (Jason Hahn).  Both types of phones are always coming out with new models and new creative assets that come on the phone.  Therefore, this makes it hard for surveyors to accurately make percentages that really show who prefer what kind of phone.  The studies are very different every year because of the new phones that come out.  However, there is just something about each phone that people like more than the other.  As we all know, normally people that are over 50 didn’t grow up with a lot of technology until they got much older.  Unlike the older people, under people that are younger than 30 have grown up with technology and is more used to the idea of it.  It seems as if older people should like IPhones better because IPhones are known to be more people friendly.  Androids, on the other hand, they have more options and settings.  You can do more with an android people it is so much more customable.  My hypothesis is that older people like IPhones better than they like androids and the younger people would prefer Androids better than they would like IPhone.
Method
I concluded with my hypothesis because of my knowledge that I know about the phones and the ability of people’s technology uses.  I made a survey that was conducted to find an end result of the fact that age does make a difference in the preference of the Androids and the IPhones.  By using my resources, the younger people from the University of Louisville were a couple of questions to complete my survey.  15 people were asked if they were under the age of 30 and if they preferred iPhone or androids better.  Then 15 people were asked if they are between the ages of 30 and 50 and if they preferred IPhone or Android.  Using resources again, the older people were found in businesses and churches.  Lastly, people that are over 50 were asked if they preferred androids or iPhone better.  Two people from every age group were asked another question that would provide this survey more of in-depth answer. The question was, “Why do you prefer an IPhone over and Android or vise-versa?”  This question would prove the reasoning behind my hypothesis.

Results
11 out of 15 people that were under the age of 30 said that they prefer iPhones over Androids.  I asked two people why they liked IPhone better and one person said because all of their friends have an iPhone.  The other person said that they liked the use of their iTunes.  Then I asked people that were between 30 and 50 and it was pretty even.  7 out of 15 people liked IPhone better.  I asked two people why and one people said that they like the looks of an iPhone better and the other person said that iPhone has more aps.  Last I asked people that were older than 50 and 2 out of 15 people like IPhone better.  I asked two people why they liked Androids better and one person said that because of the business they were in, it was easier to multi-task with an Android.  The other person said that they think that Androids have to best technology and that they last longer.
Figure 1: A bar graph that shows that the older a person is, the more that older person prefers an Android.  The younger a person is, the more that younger person prefers IPhones.

Discussion
I made this survey searching that older people would prefer IPhone more than Androids because of their age and generation.  The results from this survey were shocking and not at all what I expected.  I figured that younger people would like Androids better because you can do more with them, they are more customable and the use of multi-tasking is easier.  However, I found the complete opposite of my hypothesis.  I found that older people like androids more than IPhone and younger people like iPhone more than androids.  Although my research did not involve a lot of people and it can’t necessarily be used to determine who likes what more, I think that my research proves some good points of why people prefer what they do prefer.  It is also just one survey at this particular time. If this survey would be taken again next year, I’m sure that it would change.  It is interesting that this research was not as even as the results that were found on other websites.  There should be more surveys that pin point certain subjects of the situation in order to determine what phone would be more preferred by certain people.

effective web designs

I will be making a website for this assignment.
These are the 5 effectives way to make an effective web design that I found in my research.
  1. Make sure that your site contains plenty of information - not just advertising material, but information that will have use and value to your visitors.
  2. Go easy on the graphics. A 'good' page is one that achieves the right balance between being visually attractive and being quick to download. Remember that speed of downloading doesn't only depend on the length of the text and graphic files. Each time the visitor has to download a new file, at least another second is added to the time.
  3. At the very least, give a text alternative to each graphic - 4 out of every 10 Web users browse with the graphics turned off. If you can, set up a text-only version of the site, selectable by the user on the home page (we're working on this for our site).
  4. Always test your site on more than one browser. What looks cool on Netscape may come out as garbage on Mosaic. And a lot of people are still using text-only browsers, such as Lynx.
  5. Make it easy for visitors to interact with you. Have at least one way of them contacting you on every page- and give people a good reason why they should. Although using a form may be an attraction, some people prefer an email alternative.

Final Draft Research Paper

College Tuition is Too High
Everyone that I am talking to today has been to or goes to college.  Does the words college tuition, financial aid, FAFSA, minimum wages jobs make you want to grind your teeth?  I am one of those college student who wants to be in college but is struggling because of money.  I did some research on how bad this tuition costs has been effecting college students.  Nearly 80% of college students in the United States attend a public institution (U.S. Department of Education, 2005).  Many parents and students stress over not having enough money to afford college without being in a large amount of debt when finished.  In 2012 and 2013 President Barack Obama put higher education “on notice” about the escalating cost, which has become a vexing subject of public and academic debate (Nelson, 2013).  College, now a days, is extremely necessary for a successful and happy life.  Without college, the only way to get a decent amount of money is to work in a ware house or factory doing hard work that you’re not getting paid enough for.  Or you could be like my mother and get an account managing position because of seniority.  Back when my mother got her job, about 35 years ago, she wasn’t required to have any schooling besides a high school diploma. The American dream is to be successful and be able to have a life full of opportunity.  The tuition costs have gotten so high that people are dropping out, ruining our future generations, and causing debt for students that takes years for them to get out of.
In order for most to pay for school, they have to work which sometimes this job can take over your studies and you’ll feel like you’re working more than doing school work.  However, the only reason you’re at work is to get money to make your way through college.  A new survey from Citigroup and Seventeen magazine finds that almost 80 percent of students take at least a part-time job during the school year. The survey calculated that on average, these students work 19 hours a week (Fang, Marina).   The general rule of thumb regarding college studying is, and has been for a long time, that for each class, students should spend approximately 2-3 of study time for each hour that they spend in class.  Many students carry a course load of 15 credits, or approximately 15 hours of class time each week.  Doing some simple math indicates that your student should be spending roughly 30 hours of study time and 15 hours in class (Is Your College Student Investing Enough Time Studying?)  In addition, every student has to find some time to sleep.  Each teacher has a mindset that their class is the only class that we, as students, have on our calendar.  Professors aren’t exactly the most laid back and undemanding people you would ever meet.  Assignments are meant to be perfect and exactly the way the professor expects it.  This can become extremely stressful.
At the University of Louisville, we are required to take general education classes.  This includes: 6 hours of Written Communication, 3 hours of Oral Communication, 3 hours of Mathematics, 10 hours in Natural Sciences, 6 hours in Arts and Humanities, 9 hours in Social and Behavioral Sciences, and 6 hours in Understanding Cultural Diversity.  Most of these classes won’t have anything to do with your major.  Therefore, this means that you have to spend an excessive amount of more money just to graduate.  These classes are generally taken in the first few years of college to get them out of the way.  These classes are usually not anything that people that has chosen majors would be interested in.  For instance, someone with a math degree wants nothing to do with writing.  Therefore this leads to loosing people attention in the beginning out their first few years of college.  This causes for them to want to drop out and move on to something different.
Dividing your tuition money and the money you have to have in order to live can be stressful.  It’s hard to have enough money to pay for food, gas, housing, medical expenses, etc.  It’s almost impossible to have money for these necessities.  You always have to put majority of your earnings into paying for your tuition so when it comes to things like food, gas, living expenses, medical bills, etc., it can be difficult to find enough money to pay for all of that.  They wander why college students gain so much weight.  We don’t have any money to pay for anything remotely healthy.  Everything we consume are things like Taco Bell, Papa Johns, and Mc Donald’s.
The stress that can come about from a college student is unreal.  You get so tired from staying up all night to do your work and then the hours that you put into your job can add up.  This causes for students to want to drop out.  When you don’t get enough sleep, this causes for many physical and mental disorders.  Most importantly, when you don’t sleep, you are unable to perform properly while in class or doing assignments.  Then we end up paying for all of this college and we can’t even absorb the education because we are too exhausted and over worked.
The more people that don’t go to school, the worse each generation is going to get.  The future of America lies in the hands of the students who are getting their education.  However, if more and more students are dropping out because they can’t pay for it then this means the worst for our next few generations.  Look at our leaders that we have acquired.  Our leaders that we have now have gone to school for many of years and learned more from it than you could ever just get out a book.  College is a necessity for the leaders of America.  Without college we would be uneducated and clueless on how to take care of our country.  In order to make political decisions, there is a lot of background that needs to be covered to be qualified to make an important decision.  College is a big deal for our country and future generations and it needs to be more accessible for everyone.  Our country has achieved more great things and we are getting smarter and smarter every day.  However, things will change if college tuition gets out of hand to the point that it isn’t affordable anymore.
Students are dropping out like flies from college and then left with thousands of dollars of debt.  Seven out of ten college seniors from last year had student loan debt with an average of $29,400 per student  (Project on student debt).  In-state college tuition is at an average of $7,020 per student a semester not including the housing which is as high as $1700 a month at some schools.  The tuition rate went up 6.5% from this previous year.  Economists have considered various models to explain the phenomenon of the rising cost of tuition but only one has been invoked more than any other: “the revenue theory of cost” advanced by Howard Bowen in 1980 (Kimball, Bruce A).  The theory has been called “Bowen’s Law” and “Bowen’s Rule” since the 1990s and 2000s. It states:
1. The dominant goals of institutions are educational excellence, prestige, and influence.
2. In quest of excellence, prestige, and influence, there is virtually no limit to the amount of money an institution could spend for seemingly fruitful educational needs.
3. Each institution raises all the money it can.
4. Each institution spends all it raises.
5. The cumulative effect of the preceding four laws is toward ever increasing expenditure (Popik, Barry).
The only thing about this “law” is that it is careless with the concern of the students and how much they are the ones providing for the school, money wise.
Students who pay for their college themselves have a 42% graduation rate.  Students who have family pay their way have a 63% graduation rate.  I am a student who has no help from my parents and it is extremely hard to survive on my own.  If parents do want to be able to help their children out in college, they have to start a savings account as soon as their child is born.  College isn’t something that you need to start saving up for when the time is getting closer for it.  It’s not like a vacation.  This requires years and years of savings.
There are many conditions of which college tuition goes towards.  Provides revenue to reduce the student-faculty ratio, Supports merit pay increases for faculty and staff, Funds requested student services initiatives, Funds college and school initiatives, Funds financial aid programs targeted at maintaining economic accessibility of the university, Offsets rising utilities’ costs, Funds critical academic capital projects, Funds general libraries, Funds IT infrastructure (How Tuition Is Used).  Decisions about public institution tuition and state financial aid are made at the state level by state policy makers (Doyle, William R.). The problem is that tuition is getting more expensive every year and eventually, at this rate, people are not going to be able to go to school at all.  Then colleges really won’t be able to make any money.
With the tuition being so high, it is causing students to drop out, making our country go into a scary future, and causing for students to go into so much debt that it almost isn't worth it.  We, as college students are working extremely hard to better not only ourselves but everyone around us as well.  We want to do well and want to succeed.  College tuition is holding us back from our dreams and expectations for ourselves.  It is understandable that in  a college, there is many of things that have to be paid for, however, the cost of those necessities are getting more and more expensive to the point that it is unaffordable.  If college becomes unaffordable then our future generations are going to be uneducated and we will not continue to move forward in our country.  This could cause for tragic problems.  We shouldn't have to pay so much money to eventually only do something good for our country in the future.

Outline

College Tuition is Too High
I.                    Attention Getter:  Everyone that I am talking to today has been to or goes to college.  Does the words college tuition, financial aid, FAFSA, minimum wages jobs make you want to grind your teeth?  I am one of those college student who wants to be in college but is struggling because of money.  I did some research on how bad this tuition costs has been effecting college students.
II.                  Thesis/Central Idea:  The tuition costs have gotten so high that people are dropping out, ruining our future generations, and causing debt for students that takes years for them to get out of.
Transition:  This causes lots of stress on young students who are trying their very best.
Body-
I.                    If a college student doesn't have one problem, they have a thousand.  College students are under so much stress.
a.       In order for most to pay for school, they have to work which sometimes this job can take over your studies and you’ll feel like you’re working more than doing school work.  However, the only reason you’re at work is to get money to make your way through college.

Transition:  I could only imagine that this probably doesn't make the U.S. look all that great.
II.                  The more people that don’t go to school, the worse each generation is going to get.
a.       The future of America lies in the hands of the students who are getting their education.  However, if more and more students are dropping out because they can’t pay for it then this means the worst for our next few generations.
b.      Our leaders that we have now have gone to school for many of years and learned more from it than you could ever just get out a book.  College is a necessity for the leaders of America.
Transition:  This country could fall simply because college tuition is too high.

College tuition is too high.

This is not a set in stone topic of mine but this is the only thing I can think of for now and I have also done a speech on the topic before.

Now a-days, it is completely necessary for everyone to have a college degree in order to get a good paying job.  There are many fields of study that you can go into that can provide a high paying income but now you can just go to school for 4 years for your degree, you have to get your major in the topic because there is such a high demand for everything.  It seems as if you have to have a masters to even be considered to do something that you would want to do for the rest of your life.

If you don't go to school you are either working in a warehouse, working in the food industry, or you have a good paying job because of seniority. For me, I have to go to school for around seven years in order to get a good job that I would actually be happy to do for the rest of my life.

Basically what I'm trying to say it that because of the demand of having to go to school for so long, it should be less expensive.  Most people that don't go to college is because they either don't have to motivation for it or they don't have any money for it.  It used to be that you just went for four years and you were set for life but now you have to spend double the money go to school for maybe even four more years.  Most people don't have the money for it.

If you think long term, if more and more people aren't going to college then our society will become more and more dumb.

Reflection questions

I learned many new ideas about writing in the field of study that I am wanting to pursue in.  I was unaware of how many different types of writing there was in the field of business. I learned about what kind of writing business people use and several different forms of it.  I also learned the meaning of academic and non-academic writing and how it is used in the business world.

My assumptions for writing in the field of business was that usually everyone wrote the same way.  I figured that everyone would have to write papers like we write in school but they actually only write emails on a daily bases and that is about the extent of their writing.  However, if you're in school then its a different stories.  A daily routine of writing for probably be at least two pages a day.  I figured I would find more academic sources in the field of business but the only thing I could find was business proposals or business plans which only happen a couple of times for every business.

The challenges that I had when writing this assignment was when I had to research for academic sources.  There weren't many sources that I could find that related to the people that I had interviewed.  From what I gathered from the people that I interviewed was that they don't do much academic writing.  However, I found that every business has to start somewhere and it has to start with a business plan which takes an academic paper to perform.

I learned that I have a long road to travel in school with my writing techniques and abilities.  It helped talking to someone who is about to graduate from business school because he was able to share with me the practices that he does with writing.  It has influenced me to become a better writer because if I am going to be able to survive in business school then I will need to know how to write a great paper.  His writing compared to mine was a significant difference.  My weaknesses are sentence structure, vocabulary, and research ability.  My strength are being able to portray the meaning of my writing.

I found group conferences very useful.  I was able to gather much needed information from not only my teacher but some good advice from my classmate as well.  When I walked out of the meeting I felt ready to write my final draft.  I feel like it was a great way for me to get a good critique.  When I see a side note on my paper saying that I did something wrong in my writing, it usually doesn't say much so I don't usually know how to take care of the problem to fix it.  It was useful to be able to hear in person what was wrong with my paper that way I can ask questions and someone can explain to me what I am doing wrong.  I thought it was a great idea to do these conferences with a partner because it made me feel comfortable and I was able to get more ideas from another student.  I feel as if I would not have done as well on my final draft with out the conference.

Reflection for Research Paper
When I started writing this paper, I was having trouble finding and narrowing down to a topic.  The instructions were that we were to choose a topic that had relevance to our major that we were studying.  I don't have a major figured out yet so I wasn't sure what path I should choose to choose a topic.  So I chose something that I figured I would know a lot about and something that I felt strongly about and that was that college tuition is too high.  The first thing that I did was write my outline.  I jotted down some main points that I was going to use and then started forming ideas that I could use for those topics.  Some good research ideas that I could use in my paper.  One of the harder things that I had problems with was finding an academic source again.  I had troubles with this last time because I didn't know what website to use.  This time I found a great website that I could use.  The only problem was that I was looking for specific research and there wasn't always something that was covering what I was talking about specifically.  Therefore, I had to change up some of my topics.  Before this class I have never used academic sources before and I found that I got some really good information off of this website and in these academic pieces.
The difference between a research based argument paper and a research based information paper is that the argument paper is purposely presenting a problem and saying that something is wring and that it needs to be changed, and then normally presenting a proposal on how it should be changed.  The informational paper is to inform people of some research that they found.

Reflection on Remediation Assignment  3/31/15
The purpose of my remediation project was to transform my research paper that talked about college tuition being to high into a website.  It was a lot easier than I thought it was going to be.  I felt like it was harder to get my main point across in the website because I couldn't have as much information that I had had in my paper.  I found that it was easier to use my outline for this assignment because it was structured more like a website should be.
My target audience did not change when I changed my paper into a website.  If any changed were to occur to my audience it was be that it would be easier to understand and that it was more attractive in the appearance.
I was able to use pictures in my website and designs and bullet points.  If I had to chose to either read the website or the paper I would read the website because it is short and to the point, its colorful, and easy to understand.  However, if you are looking for more information then you would need to read the paper because there is more factual information that I spent a lot of time researching.  I feel like I was able to organize my paper better when it was on a website.  Bullet point and sub headings make things easier to read and understand.  The website allowed me to add a lot of cool extras that really made the page pop.  It also showed me how to make the website.
